Albergue El Cantu in Colombres

Overview

Albergue El Cantu in Colombres is a private albergue offering accommodation for pilgrims on the Camino del Norte. Opened in 1996, it occupies a striking early 20th-century Indianos mansion at the entrance to Colombres — the first Asturian town on the Norte. The albergue spreads across two buildings with 14 rooms and 130 beds at €15 per night.

Conveniently located directly on the Camino route, it puts the famous Indianos architecture of Colombres, the Cantabrian coast, and the Picos de Europa all within easy reach. Additionally, all basic services are available in the village.

Pilgrim Insight

Albergue El Cantu is primarily geared towards adventure sports groups and summer camps, but welcomes pilgrims when space is available. The Indianos mansion setting gives it a character unlike any other albergue on the Norte — arriving at a handsome colonial-style house after a long coastal stage is a genuinely memorable experience. Note: confirm availability before arriving, particularly in summer when groups often fill the albergue completely.

Additionally, no pilgrim credential is required to stay. In winter, always contact the albergue directly to confirm it is open before setting out.

If you haven’t yet selected all your equipment, take a look at our recommended pilgrim gear list to see everything we recommend for the Camino.
