Albergue de Peregrinos San Juan Bautista in Grañón
Overview
Albergue de Peregrinos San Juan Bautista in Grañón is a parochial donativo albergue for pilgrims walking the Camino Francés on the Camino de Santiago. Founded in 1997 inside the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, this historic pilgrim hostel stands on the site of a former medieval hospital for pilgrims.
The albergue offers around 40 sleeping places on floor mattresses rather than beds or bunks. In addition, pilgrims are provided with a communal donativo dinner and breakfast, a kitchen, covered bike storage, and free Wi-Fi. Volunteer hospitaleros manage the albergue throughout the year under the guidance of parish priest Don Jesús.
Pilgrim Insight
Albergue San Juan Bautista is considered one of the most iconic stops on the Camino de Santiago. For many years, pilgrims have gathered here to share a communal meal, sleep beneath the medieval church tower, and take part in evening reflection inside the church choir.
There are no private rooms, no bunk beds, and no fixed price. Instead, the focus remains on simplicity, hospitality, and community spirit. Moreover, pilgrims of every background are welcomed equally, making the albergue one of the most memorable spiritual experiences on the Camino Francés.
