Albergue La Casa de las Sonrisas
Albergue La Casa de las Sonrisas in Grañón
Overview
Albergue La Casa de las Sonrisas in Grañón is a private donativo albergue for pilgrims walking the Camino Francés on the Camino de Santiago. Opened in 2012 on Calle Mayor, the albergue operates entirely on donations with no fixed price.
This 17-bed albergue offers low-frame beds instead of bunks, a communal donativo dinner and breakfast, a garden, bike storage, Wi-Fi, and a pet-friendly policy. In addition, the property sits directly in the centre of Grañón, the final village in La Rioja before the Camino crosses into Burgos province.
Pilgrim Insight
La Casa de las Sonrisas — “House of Smiles” — has become known for its warm and welcoming Camino atmosphere. Pilgrims are invited to paint messages, memories, and artwork directly onto the bedroom walls. As a result, the albergue has developed into a living collection of Camino de Santiago stories from walkers around the world.
Moreover, Ernesto’s experience as a long-distance pilgrim gives the albergue an authentic pilgrim spirit that many walkers appreciate on the Camino Francés. The communal meals, relaxed setting, and small capacity also help create a friendly social atmosphere.
