Albergue San Andrés in Zariquiegui

Overview

Albergue San Andrés in Zariquiegui is a private albergue offering dormitory accommodation for pilgrims on the Camino Francés. Opened in 2014 on Calle Camino de Santiago, this eco-friendly albergue heats water and rooms using wood and solar panels — a sustainable approach that sets it apart on the route. It offers 26 beds across 3 rooms with individual lockers, a bar-restaurant with pilgrim menu, breakfast, shared kitchen, washing machine, dryer, and free Wi-Fi. Host Sergio Esteban Lizanzu speaks English and runs it with a warm, family feel.

Conveniently located directly on the Camino route in the tiny village of Zariquiegui — 11.5 km from Pamplona and just below the Alto del Perdón — the albergue is one of the last stops before the famous hilltop windmill monument and the long descent to Puente la Reina.

Pilgrim Insight

Albergue San Andrés is an outstanding choice for pilgrims who want to stage an early sunrise arrival at the Alto del Perdón — the most photographed spot on the Camino Francés — before the crowds. Staying in Zariquiegui the night before allows a short 30-minute climb to the summit at first light. Furthermore, the home-cooked pilgrim meal and the quiet, village atmosphere make it a genuinely restorative stop before the toughest climb of Stage 3 from Pamplona.

Note: the albergue opens from Easter to 31 October. Additionally, reservations are accepted but pilgrims are given priority — walk-ins are welcomed when space allows.

Reviews

Good facilities and a great stop if you want to get to Alto de Perdon for sunrise. Good pilgrim meal and early breakfast at the cafe close by.
